Where it all began

Silver Road Community Centre formerly know as Silver Rooms

Welcome to
Silver Road Community Centre

We fought for eight years to win the Silver Rooms. We successfully did this, with the help of the local community and the coalition, which gave us a 21 year peppercorn rent of £1, from Norfolk County Council.

The Silver Road Community Centre is run by volunteers. Everything is done by these volunteers, including the manager role. Everyday tasks include; The running of the rooms, invoices, event planning, hiring and so much more.

WHAT WE HAVE ACHIEVED SO FAR…..

In the past 8 years, we’ve held events such as; Bollywood nights, birthday parties, jumble sales, Christmas fayres, Easter fayres, wellbeing fayres and so much more.

As well as, having permanent groups that hire the hall. These include; Zumba, Zumba Gold, Stay and Play, Sewell Toy Library, Yoga, Accra Yoga, Choir and Dancing Lessons.

During Covid-19 our Community Centre ran sessions, three times a week, making packed lunches for the local school children and their families. During a period of 18 months, we made 10,000 sandwiches, with the help of our many wonderful volunteers.

Due to the hardship of many families in need, within the NR3 area, we decided to open up a food bank and community fridge (See more information in above headings) and to this day we have helped 950+ families.

MEET OUR MANAGER

Julie Brociek-Coulton

I became involved with our community centre when it was formerly known as the Silver Rooms Day Centre, due to the County Council planning on closing it and auctioning it off. After fighting and saving the rooms, we renamed the centre to Silver Road Community Centre and I became the volunteer manager.

Ever since I became involved in the centre, I have been very passionate about it. It is a fantastic place and the warmth and value it brings to the community is invaluable and makes people feel at home.

With my help, as well as, the trustees and volunteers, we have become well known within the city and continue to grow our positive reputation in any way that we can.
